For his sculptures and installations, Michael Goodward combines commonplace domestic and industrial materials in an often poetic and humorous manner. “Not satisfied with the ‘golden shot’, the noble junky can now take the ‘diamond shot’: hundreds of tiny Swarovski crystals sparkle from within the cylinder of a syringe placed in a velvet-covered case. Currently living in Switzerland, the object art design-gimmicks of the British-born Michael Goodward distort the practical value of commonplace things, sometimes absurdly, sometimes frivolously. The watch, upon the dial of which is printed the simple word ‘Now’, gives the final existential avowal. Hours do not strike for the happy man.” (Stuttgarter Zeitung, 18.09.09)
